The Wrong Alphabet

an asemic writing playground

The Wrong Alphabet is a tool for making letters that don’t exist.

At a glance it looks like a stamping and image tool. You type something in, mutate it, stamp it onto a canvas, export a PNG. That part is simple and intentional.

The real draw is what’s underneath.

The Wrong Alphabet can export full TTF font files generated on the fly from its glyph engine. Those fonts work in other software, word processors, layout tools, and drawing apps. Once exported, they behave like any other font, just deeply wrong.

What it actually does

• Generate glyphs using multiple procedural writing systems
• Control coherence, mutation, spread, drift, jitter, and quantization
• Stamp text freely onto a canvas for quick compositions
• Export high-resolution PNGs
• Export complete experimental TTF fonts
• Fonts work in standard word processors and design tools
• Designed for desktop, tablet, and touch devices

Each generation mode has a different character. Some are flowing and calligraphic. Others are jagged, mechanical, or fractured. Mixed Chaos blends several systems together and lets things get unpredictable.

Why the TTF export matters

The stamping and PNG export are useful for quick pieces, covers, and textures.

The TTF export is where this becomes something else.

You can take a generated alphabet and use it anywhere fonts are accepted. Typesetting, layout, writing, drawing apps, or other generative tools. These fonts are also designed to work directly with False Grammar, an upcoming asemic drawing and writing system that treats text more like a material than a sentence.

The Wrong Alphabet is meant to be part of a larger ecosystem, not a one-off toy.

Who this is for

• Glitch and generative artists
• Experimental typographers
• Zine, poster, and album designers
• Worldbuilders and conlang-adjacent weirdos
• Anyone interested in writing without legibility

If you like tools that give you structure and then let it fall apart, this should feel right.

Price and access

The Wrong Alphabet is free to use in your browser.

You can optionally pay $10 to download a local copy. Same features, runs offline, and helps support continued development.

Notes

Intended for personal and artistic use.
Anything you generate is yours.
Redistribution of the software itself isn’t allowed.

This is definitely a work in progress, please let me know about any bugs—your platform/browser info will be most helpful!

On iPhone, the downloaded HTML file should work perfectly in Microsoft Edge.

This is an excellent idea! However I can't play around with this fully, as any attempt to change the font results in: Generation Failed A network error occurred. Also my computer can't read the exported TTF files.
